Minimally Invasive Surgery of the Foot

Minimally invasive (or percutaneous) foot surgery describes a family of surgical techniques performed through very small incisions, rather than the larger, open approaches traditionally used in foot and ankle surgery. Using specialised instruments and intraoperative X-ray guidance, the surgeon corrects bone and soft tissue deformities while minimising disruption to the surrounding tissue — an approach that can reduce soft tissue trauma, wound complications, and postoperative discomfort compared with equivalent open procedures, though outcomes always depend on the specific condition and the individual patient.

Not every foot condition, and not every patient, is suited to a minimally invasive approach — the right technique depends on the specific pathology, the degree of correction required, and individual anatomy. Dr Hogan assesses each patient individually to determine whether a minimally invasive/percutaneous, or traditional open technique will give the most reliable and durable result, and will discuss the options relevant to your condition during your consultation.
